Happy Tuesday!

Thank you to City and Dale for mentioning us on their February 21 Style Dossier!  L and I have been fans of this site for a long time and admire their expertise on Edmonton Style & Happenings.  We often wait for their Weekend Guides to be posted before confirming our Friday, Saturday and Sunday plans.  Definitely a site to add to your favorites list.

L and I continue to work our way through Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project.  The book breaks happiness into 12 sections giving readers a series of challenges to attempt each month.  For February, we attempted a week of Extreme Nice and as promised, here’s what I was able to accomplish last week.

As the week evolved we narrowed our focus to Helping Strangers and becoming an Extreme Friend

Helping Strangers:

We decided the best way to accomplish this is to volunteer for 2 local organizations that help the Edmontonians who need it most:

Radiothon (February 23 & 24), the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation’s largest fundraising event!

Corus radio stations 92.5 JOE FM, CISN COUNTRY 103.9, and 630 CHED, broadcast live sharing inspiring real-life stories of patients, families and staff to raise money for pediatric equipment and research.

Because Edmonton Cares, the volunteer group started by our friend Jody, is heading to The Mustard Seed on Friday night to serve popcorn and socialize with their clients.

Extreme Friend

  • I have AMAZING friends (L being the one of the very best) and it was  refreshingto be able to repay them with some grand gestures.  I was able to plan a birthday weekend for one friend who has a fairly momentus birthday in March, design and print invitations to another friend’s 25th wedding anniversary celebration coming in April and host and entertain another friend who moved to Regina but came back for the long weekend.
  • I had 1 major fail in this category when, in a bout of ridiculous girl drama, I foolishly felt the need to break off ties with someone that I was on the road to becoming close friends with.  The reasons for this now seem irrelevant and I’m hopeful he’ll understand and in time we can start occasionally meeting for Coronas and wings at Hudsons to watch the Oilers games.  Hopefully this happens before the summer, because I was banking on him teaching L and I to golf, play pool and play poker for Do Something Different.   Here’s hoping…

Tonight I’m shopping for knee pads because we’re going to Sports World on Thursday to try roller skating for this week’s Do Something Different activity.
