You can’t beat a group of zebras

“When zebras run in a group, their stripes blend together. It may be hard for enemies to tell where one zebra ends and another starts.” – from In A True Book by Melissa Stewart.

According to their website, that is how The Zebra Centre works:

  • By bringing a multi-disciplinary community of professionals—Edmonton Police Service, Alberta Children’s Services, Crown Prosecutors, Child at Risk Response Teams, medical and trauma screening professionals and volunteer Child and Family Advocates – to an environment that nurtures the hurt child and uses all the wisdom of its partnership to see that justice is done. Even though the adult zebras are fierce and ever watchful, they indulge in play with their colts and fillies. They seem to instinctively know that children need to be nurtured in ways appropriate to their age. The Zebra Centre knows this too.

The Zebra Child Protection Centre enables Edmonton and area to effectively and efficiently respond to child abuse.  I started to look into this Centre today when my co-worker, Bill, asked if I was planning to do the new half marathon coming to St Albert in May.

Run Wild Leading Edge Marathon will happen May 15 is St Albert.  It is Alberta’s newest road race and is pending certification as a Boston Marathon Qualifier.  If you aren’t quite ready for 42.2kms; there will also be a Half Marathon Run & Walk, 10 Km, 5 kmRun & Walk and MaraFun for kids ages 6 – 12.

It sounds like a great run for an even better cause!
