Making Spirits (and sets) Bright

One of our favorite organizations to volunteer with is the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.  Last night we had a wonderful time helping to build and decorate sets for their upcoming Snowflake Gala.  Last night’s group volunteer outing was organized by Because Edmonton Cares.  This amazing group is the brain child of our good friend Jody.  Check them out on Facebook.  Because Edmonton Cares has helped countless worthwhile projects over the past year; from serving hot chocolate for the Youth Emergency Centre at the Ice on Whyte Festival, to hosting a popcorn night at the Mustard Seed, to helping the Food Bank at the Heritage Festival.  You may recognize Because Edmonton Cares from a few of our earlier posts.  Remember our wild night at the ice slide! It is a fabulous group and congratulations to Jody for introducing us to some interesting and incredibly worthwhile organizations.

The Snowflake Gala is set for Monday, December 12 at the Shaw Conference Centre.  This year’s gala will be a royal theme and L and I will be volunteering at the photo booth.  This is about the best early Christmas gift that two Kate Middleton fans can receive; expect to see a lot of pictures of us in our fascinators and party dresses!  We owe Kristin and Jolene from the Stollery huge Christmas treats for giving us such fabulous volunteer positions.  They are sweethearts and we welcome any opportunity to help them out.

The Gala is a high-end wonderland with decorations that will impress and thrill the 1,100 guests it expects.  Volunteers work on these sets for two months prior to the event in a warehouse in west Edmonton.  Last night L sorted the Christmas trees and I painted backdrops.  I’m not much of an artist, but I’m pretty pleased with how my ‘winter-sky’ backdrops turned out.  I’m pretty sure they caught wind of L’s lack of artistry at the SNAP gallery earlier this year and gave her a more menial task – HaHa.  It was a fun night and great to catch up with some friends from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure committee.  We can’t wait until the big night!
